Cooper started his show career off with a bang going RWD at 6 months in the Rio Grande Valley GRC Specialty in May 2005. He finished his championship at 23 months with 14 of his 15 points awarded by breeder judges and earning two 5-point majors including Winners Dog at the Mile-Hi GRC Specialty in June 2006. To complete this very special year Cooper won the 2006 Mile Hi Golden Retriever Club Beaumaris Traveling Trophy awarded to the Top Class Dog of the year. Thank you judges Michael Faulkner, Bernadette Cox, Sandra B. Dunn, Connie Gerstner Miller and Roger Hartinger for awarding Cooper his Championship points.

Dianne Barnes (Windsong Goldens) is the breeder and co-owner of Cooper. I can never thank Dianne enough for trusting me with this very special boy.
Cooper is a true type Golden – many have called him an “old fashion” Golden – we prefer to say he’s “classic”. He is 23 1/2 inches tall and approximately 75 lbs.
HEAD: Overall typical Golden with excellent depth and breadth of muzzle, good stop and breadth of skull.
MOUTH: Full dentition and scissor bite.
EYES: Dark with good pigmentation.
COAT: Dark with good texture and slight wave.

FEET: Tight and cat like.

CONFORMATION: Overall a well balance dog. Good length of neck that flows into a strong level topline and tail set. Shoulders are well laid back, resulting in good front angulation. The rear angles match the front. Nice body and spring of rib to complete the picture.

MOVEMENT: Given the above, the movement is powerful with excellent reach and drive.

Cooper was awarded his first Best of Breed in November 2006 (one day before his second birthday) at the Sporting Dog Fanciers of New Mexico Specialty (thank you Judge Robert L. Robinson). Cooper was shown on a limited basis as a Special where he received multiple Group placements, BOBs, BOSs, Selects and JAMs. In June 2009 Cooper was Best of Breed at the Kansas City Golden Retriever Club Specialty (thank you breeder Judge Connie Gerstner Miller). In June, 2011 Cooper earned his Grand Championship with 5 major wins, 4 BOBs and a Sporting Group 3. Cooper also completed his Rally Novice title at the GRCA National Specialty in September 2007.

Cooper as a Veteran

As a veteran Cooper continued to be shown on a limited basis at Specialties where he has received a Specialty BOB, BOSs, Selects, a JAM, multiple Best Veteran in Specialty and a Best Veteran in Sweeps. In November 2012 Cooper was Best of Breed from the Veterans Class under breeder judge Marcia Schlehr – following in the foot steps of his father who also received a Specialty BOB under Ms. Schlehr. To complete this very special year Cooper won the 2012 Mile Hi Golden Retriever Club Top Veteran Traveling Trophy.
We lost Cooper at 12 1/2 year old in April of 2017 and we miss this very special boy every day.
