Opal wasn’t shown as a puppy. Bruce picked her up at 9 months old from her breeder when he arrived in the USA for a 2 year traveling holiday. They traveled all over together in the RV.Bruce finally settled down in Denver and started showing Opal when she was about 2 years old.Opal is very English looking; this meant she wouldn’t be every judge’s cup of tea - what became obvious was she was a breeder judge dog.Opal finished her Championship in 2 years of selective showing and was the 2010 Mile Hi Golden Retriever Club Beaumaris Traveling Trophy winner awarded to the Top Class Bitch of the year. The following are her major wins:
*April 2009, Terry-All KC – WB, BOW, BOB and Group 4 for a 3 pt major under Breeder judge Bernadette Cox.
*June 2009, Mid-Del Tinker KC – WB, BOW and BOS for a 3 pt major under Breeder judge Susanne Hemminger.

*August 2009, Santa Barbara KC – WB for a 4 pt major under Group Specialist Guy Spagnola from Australia

*October 2009, GRCA National – 4th in Open Bitch class under Breeder judge Nancy Talbott.

*March 2010, Gardent City KC – WB and BOW for final point.

Opal as a Special

In Opal's only weekend as a Special she received a JAM at the Dallas-Ft. Worth Metro GRC Specialty - thank you breeder judge Bernadette Cox.

Opal then retired from the show ring and enjoyed being a mother to 2 litters and hanging out at our home until she passed away in March 2014 from complications of a heart tumor.  We will miss her every day.
